Fantastic Success for team TRAC in the 2023 KCAA Kent Road Race Grand Prix
The Kent Grand Prix is a series of 10 races over the year, also aligned with the TRAC club championships races. 43 teams in Kent took part throughout the year. 8 of the races scores are counted for the team event and 6 for the individual. There are also individual scores for the age categories.
Final results: Men’s Team second place and Ladies Team third place. When you take into consideration the size of some of the other clubs in this competition our runners have been simply sensational!
And some amazing individual performances- Congratulations!
Well done and thank you to everyone who showed up to the KCAA championship races, it has really put TRAC on the map!
It’s the first season ever where we have had both men’s and ladies teams in the top three at the same time. Fantastic!
There were some really interesting locations and some challenging races this year. Tenterden, Chislehurst and Sittingbourne come to mind!
After the Canterbury 10 mile race, there was a presentation of KCAA 2023 season trophies, with Thanet Roadrunners picking up 5 of the 10!:
Jack Bradley – Senior Champion
Andy Stevens – V50 Champion
James Figgins – V40 Champion
Brittany Crombie – Senior Champion
Jo Kemp – V35 Champion
Brittany Crombie Senior Champion Kent County Athletics Association Road Race Grand Prix 2023
Jack Bradley Senior Champion Kent County Athletics Association Road Race Grand Prix 2023
Jo Kemp (ladies captain) V35 Senior Champion Kent County Athletics Association Road Race Grand Prix 2023
Brittany (25) and the youngest ladies vice-captain in the club’s 40 year history said;
“Winning the Senior Women’s prize for the Kent Grand Prix 2023 came as a huge surprise. Whilst I do a lot of running, I’m certainly not the fastest and was therefore shocked to hear that I’d come first in a highly competitive age category. The Grand Prix works to a league system with every runner accumulating points for each of the races they participate in. As such, I feel I won due to simply turning up and running consistently. I don’t often win prizes – my preference for and focus on long-distance running means I lack speed on shorter distances. So, to be handed the trophy at the prize-giving after the Canterbury 10 felt like a huge (albeit unlikely) achievement!”
Jack Bradley (35 years) said;
“I just love seeing everyone come together as a team. Running is largely a solo pursuit, but having such a great team around you and to train with really gives you an edge when pushing yourself to the limit. I love the way Thanet Roadrunners celebrates the success of runners at all levels” .
Club Championships 2024 Calendar (And remaining Cross Country for this year)
The full list of races that we also use for our own club champs has now been published on the KCAA site.
These 10 races plus your optional submitted fastest marathon during 2024 make up the 11 potential races you can score points in. Your best six scores count. So you can do more than six if you want but only your best six scores will count. See TRAC website for more info and rules.
We hope to see lots of you at these events, we welcome all abilities and they are a great social day out too.
And don’t forget to look out for the Park Run Cup, likely to begin in March, that our men’s captain Andy Stevens is launching new for 2024, designed to reward improvement, not speed.
