About TRAC

A Club for all

Thanet Roadrunners AC is home to a huge variety of runners, not only in age but also by ability.

From beginners through to the more advance runners we make sure to incorporate all abilities in training sessions and events. Our athletes can utilise our varied coaching facilities as well as participate in the Kent leagues (road running and cross country) and the Kent Grand Prix series, track and field events. Be sure to take note of the Club Championship Races, you may get a club medal for finishing high up in your age group!

Members are encouraged to take an active role in the club by marshalling at club organised events which in turn provide funds for local charities and organisations as well as subsidising the club’s running costs thus keeping membership costs down.  Our latest financial statements can be found here

Cross Country

Thanet Roadrunners AC participate in the Kent Fitness League. There are 7 races which run between October to February on Sunday mornings. TRAC generally host one of the races in January at Minnis Bay. The club pays the entrance fee for all club members. These are great events to be part of the club team, fun is had by all as even adults enjoy getting a bit muddy. All of the races are slightly different and may include grass, woodlands, hills and water at a 8-9k average race distance.

Relays

TRAC participate in the East Kent Relay Series. These road relays are held between May and July on Tuesday evenings. This is a team event within your age groups competing against other clubs around East Kent. TRAC hosts its relay at Minnis Bay on the sea front. This series is a great way to work on your speed work as they are all a max of 4k. It is also a great way to spend time with other club members and be part of a team.

Kent Grand Prix

The Kent Grand Prix is made up of 10 races of varying lengths which covers the Kent area. Individuals are scored on their position within the race and are also combined for the clubs points. The club uses these races and might add a couple which will make up the Club Championships. Awards are given at our prize giving in the early year with awards are presented at our annual presentation evening held early in the following new year. The races that form the club championship will be published on the website at the start of each year.

Couch To 5k

Our first Couch to 5K session had over 90 participants ranging from youngsters to pensioners, all shapes and sizes and varying degrees of fitness. Some had run before, others had not, but all had one thing in common, a desire to improve their fitness and general health by staring the training course.

We are following the official NHS C25K program, which can be downloaded onto your phone. What you can’t download is the fun and friendship you will experience by starting one of our programs! The volunteers who run these sessions and the beginners taking part all agree that this is a fantastic way to help others and themselves towards a healthier lifestyle. We run plan to run two 9 week programs a year, so get in touch for more details.

Track training is for everyone, fun, varied, with lots of different sessions including relay runs, interval training, short sprint work and all manner of varied runs guaranteed to stretch the legs and improve that speed. Our resident expert TRAC coach is a whizz at making everyone who attends his sessions feel like they’ve achieved something every time.
