First Club Championship Race of the 2024 Season – Canterbury 10 Miler

Thanet Roadrunners (TRAC) athletes took on the Canterbury 10 Miler today. Renowned as a hilly course, runners do not expect to achieve a PB at this race. Nevertheless, we had a great contingent turn up to represent Thanet. With over 1,100 participants, this race is rather competitive and the field is strong.

The race began at 9am with the incoming Storm Isha hot on our heels. Twisting and turning down country lanes, through farm tracks and villages, we felt the wind in all directions. The course presents runners with two significant hills to climb – one between miles 3 and 4 and the other at around mile 8. As such, this course demands runners pace themselves well to ensure they’re not beaten by the inclines.  Though, as they say: what comes up must come down! The finish line stands at the end of an almost 2-mile downhill – a stellar opportunity for a sprint finish.

Well done to all that raced today. With the next cross country scheduled for Sunday 4th February at Allhallows, next weekend means a day off for most of us! Enjoy! Thanks to Brittany Crombie and Jo Kemp for this weeks race report.

New Club Championships Table 2024 will be updated in due course.

The race was followed by the prize giving for 2023’s Kent Grand Prix – details of which will follow in a separate post.  This race was also the first race in the 2024 KGP season  – you can follow your results and team TRAC’s progress on the KCAA website under the Road Races section.

Web editor’s comment:  If we’ve missed anyone out we do apologise.  Names have been drawn from the race results database where a club has been listed.
