Macknade Half Marathon reports from Lidia and Harry

Macknade Half Marathon (Sunday 2nd June 2024)

I have recently joined TRAC after stepping down from coaching at Canterbury Harriers.
Today, it was my first race as a Thanet Roadrunner and it was a great run.

The course which started from the Macknade Food Hall in Faversham was a mixture of road and trail. It was up and down hills and we had to run through a valley too. There were fast and slow stretches and the scenery was beautiful. It was a great course but I wouldn’t recommend it to a novice runner.

There was also the option of a 10k route which would be good for someone new to running as it was almost flat.
The race itself was well organised but a few more marshals would have been handy, as a group of us got lost and this cost me about 5 minutes.

Currently, I’m training for the Snowdon Ultra Marathon which is in 6 weeks time and after that I’ll be training for the Eryri Marathon which is in October.
Overall, I’m really looking forward to representing Thanet Roadrunners as I like to belong to a community of like-minded people as me.
Welcome to Thanet Road Runners Lidia and thanks for the race report. We do love a good race report. It sounds like you have some tough races coming up and wish you all the success with those.
Also running for TRAC in the half marathon was Esther and Harry. Well done to you both. It sounded like a tough course.

Harry Higgs – 1:57:24 – half marathon PB!
Esther Naybour – 2:04:32
Lidia Modzelewska – 2:09:26

We also had a report from Harry Higgs…
The route was a mix of road and trail along country lanes, woodlands, vineyards and through a valley! The half marathon was slightly cruel with its large number of hills on the 2nd half but we got through it!  I would do it again.

Finally, but far from last…
Thanet Roadrunners junior runner Oliver Regan (15 yrs)  won the 10k race, in a fantastic time of  39.04, beating over 200 runners in a very competitive field.

We’ve been hunting high and low for some race photos, but not found any.  Congratulations to Oliver in particular.  You are clearly a very strong runner, with a promising future.
