Ashford East Kent Road Relay Report and Results

The Ladies

4 ladies teams competed this week and one mixed team consisting of C25K graduates Jacquie Brazil and Nicky Fewster, in her first ever run for Thanet Roadrunners.

Senior ladies came in 3rd this week and are 3rd overall. Only three points separate the top 4 teams so all to run for! Thanks to Gen Case for sacrificing the v35 team and enabling the seniors to compete this week.

V35 had no team this week unfortunately and drop to 5th place overall. Very much hope we can get a team together for the final two rounds. Come on ladies!

V45a came in 2nd this week and remain in second place overall, 4 points clear of third place Folkestone.  A fantastic run from Maria Skinner, who was ‘taking it easy’ meant we were closer than ever this week to leaders Deal Tri.

V45b team came home in 4th place and are joint 4th overall. Thank you Janice, Julie and Karen M for being my ‘flexible’ team each week. You always look like you are having such a good time!

V55 ladies had another great run and came home in 2nd place to remain 2nd overall. They are also 4 points clear of 3rd placed Folkestone. The core team of Elizabeth, Karen D and Pauline with reserve of Janet are looking so strong this year. Well done ladies.

Our mixed team of Jacquie, Nicky and Jon had a great run. Thanks to Jon for running for the first time since his foot operation and enabling the ladies to compete.

The Men’s

8 Men’s teams with an A and B in each age category competed at Ashford with a total of 28 runners with all our runners competing in their correct age group, plus a mixed team using a 29th. Thanks to Jon Holl for being on the bench, and assisting our new runners make mixed team to compete. And on his and Jo’s wedding anniversary!

Seniors – A team 6th place out of 10 – With another fast time for TRAC. Another 5 points and this time beating Folkestone and keeping ahead of our local rivals Canterbury and Deal in the league with 15 points in total. Thanks all 4 of you for this effort. Jake Stevens on loan from the juniors showing dad his efforts.

Senior B – 7th place on the night and 5th in the league with 2 points on the night, although this league’s leaders only have 14 and we have 10. A good overall performance by the team including Tim Greenaway’s chance to score points.

Vet 40 –1st place moving the team up the league to joint 2nd and only 3 points behind the leaders Folkestone as well. Thanks to strong performances all round. Ah that included me 😊 bringing home the baton.

Vet 40 B – 2nd place on the night collecting 2 points. Beating Folkestone who are currently 2nd overall this time out. A lot can change in this league with only 4 teams scoring currently. Stephen Forshaw leading the team out with the baton.

Vet 50 A – 3rd place and 5 points. Seconds divided these teams last time out, and we were only 1 point away from third in the league. Now the team sit in third place with 14 points, and a gap to the no-show team Invicta.  32 seconds was a gap this time Scot Haggarty has been training hard, I think!

Vet 50 B – 5th place on the night and 3 points for the league. Great to see Michael Philpot back in the relays.

Vet 60 – 2nd place on the night but holding onto 1st in the league totalling 11 points, this is jointly with South Kent harriers. Despite Steve Suttle’s middle section effort the harriers this time were flying.

Vet 60 – B 2nd place and 2nd in the league getting us another point. Great to see Adrian Smith on the starting grid this time out.

For me the runners of the night were our fastest times; Maria Skinner 15:26 3rd overall lady on the night and Bradley Cameron 13:27 clocking a first mile of 5:24! With so many good performances and teamwork all round this night will take some beating.

Next stop Dover 25th June.

Nicola Boyes, Ladies captain and Chris Brenchley, men’s captain. 💪
