Herne Bay 10K Les Golding Memorial Race Report and Results

It just wouldn’t be a Sunday without our Thanet Roadrunners attending a race or two. This weekend saw eleven TRACies take a short trip down the road to take on the Herne Bay 10K Les Golding Memorial hosted by Invicta East Kent AC.

Starting at the Herne Bay Sailing Club, the route heads east for a mile, towards Beltinge, before turning 180° back towards Herne Bay along the promenade. The route snakes around the sea front and past Herne Bay Pier heading towards Hampton. At around 7K the route loops back and, after negotiating a tricky hill up Western Esplanade, heads back towards Herne Bay. It is then a fast and flat 3K all the way to the finish.

With a slight break in the humid weather that we have been experiencing recently and a mostly flat coastal run, it gave all of the 400 runners a chance to put in some quick times.

The race was won by Abel Tsegay of Invicta East Kent AC in an impressive time of 32:32. Claire Day of Tonbridge AC was the first female over the line in a time of 39:22.

For the Thanet Roadrunners it was Simon Arter who was first home in a time of 39:17 (16th overall). Abigail Cardwell was the first female Roadrunner to finish in a time of 45:04. There was also notable performances from Maxwell Hubbard and Daniel Otley who managed to achieve new PB’s. Jake Stevens also put in an impressive performance in the juniors 1500m race with a comprehensive victory.

The race was very well organised with all marshals offering fantastic support around the course.

The club’s results were as follows:

Simon Cowdery- 43:50
