Brighton 10k
** Race Report by Jack Bradley **
I’m no stranger to an early start, so I wasn’t too phased by the 5am wake up call for my latest racing adventure. I was headed for the Brighton 10k; a race renowned for its fast, flat course and competitive field. The journey to East Sussex passed by quickly, and I arrived at the race venue feeling prepared and excited.
The start line was buzzing with energy, with over 2,400 runners eager to get going. As the gun sounded, I settled in, following my race plan of pushing hard from the outset. The cool conditions and slight tailwind provided ideal running conditions for the first half of the race.
Reaching the halfway point, I was pleased with my progress, maintaining my target pace and feeling comfortable. However, the return leg presented a tougher challenge, now with a headwind to contend with. Fortunately, I was able to share the workload with a couple of other runners; although the pace they were willing to work at was maybe a little less than I had planned. But this was now my ‘race’. The race, within the race – and one that I was going to work hard to win.
With about 1km remaining, I made a decisive move, surging ahead and pushing hard to the finish line. I dug deep to deliver a strong final push. Crossing the line in 32:47, securing 44th place, and bagging a shiny new personal best in the process.
I would highly recommend the race, as a well organised and well supported event in the running calendar. While, the race provided me with a valuable opportunity to test my fitness and compete against a high-quality field – the general vibe of the race was one of fun, inclusion and enjoyment – as is typical of these larger events.
Incredible pace Jack. Thanks for the race report and congratulations on your PB which is getting ever closer to the club record.
