Chester Marathon – Running for England
Two of TRAC’s finest ran the Chester Marathon on Sunday. Both were representing their club and country.
Race report by Steve Suttle.
Dave and I went up to Chester on Saturday by train, no problem. Finding our accommodation was more tricky but eventually we found it and immediately had reservations! Twin room was fine but was situated immediately above a courtyard where loud music is played until 2 in the morning! Don’t ever book into the Commercial bar & hotel! That night was a nightmare, like bedlam in midnight express! From 2 the cleaners came in to clear up making no effort to keep the noise down. Needless to say I didn’t sleep a wink.
Incredibly this experience had no effect in the race next morning!
Conditions were good for running and we both performed beyond expectations.
Dave has not enjoyed his last 3 marathons but he was certainly back on form with a top class 3.45.46 which won both the England and British masters golds. For the first time ever he actually ran close to even halves which just goes to show that old dogs can learn new tricks!
I ran 3.31.55 which I wasn’t expecting so I was similarly delighted, so much so I got emotional afterwards which hasn’t happened since the final London to Brighton race in 2005.
All in all a wonderful day for us and I think we represented Thanet Roadrunners to the best of our abilities. 😄
With Steve being in the V65 category and Dave in the V75 category, these times and results are truly inspiring and deserve so much praise. Well done gents. You have made the club very proud!
