Eltham 5 (trail) – Race Report –

The Eltham 5 mile was a well organised and marshalled event with a well attended 1 mile family run and a 5 mile trail run. There was a mixture of sunshine and showers, but away from the coastline there was no wind to battle today.

This was the 7th event of the TRAC Club Championships and KCAA Grand Prix. Unfortunately the race sold out a couple of weeks before so there were a few disappointed who had left it late to sign up and were unable to attend.

It was down to Mark Croucher and Jo Kemp to represent Thanet and pick up max points each.

We started the 2 lap course on the grassy section and made our way out over the motorway bridge to the Shepherdleas Woods. Despite some recent rainfall the conditions in the wooded sections were favourable with compacted mud and a few sections of tree routes to navigate. (For those who have attended the winter cross country at Oxleas Wood across the road, this course is much much kinder!)

Mark had a great race with a strong sprint finish to overtake two competitors on the home straight. 💪👏

I found it really tough today and felt like I was running backwards on the home straight 🤣.

Results
Mark Croucher 46th (45th) 34:30
Jo Kemp 142nd (25th) 40:38

Junior Race
Junior TRAC runners Maisie and Lewis Kemp competed in the 1 mile run on a grass course.
Congratulations to Maisie who was 1st girl.

Thanks Jo for the great race report.

Well done to both her and Mark who earned maximum club champ points and well done to both Lewis and Maisie who were flying the flag for TRAC juniors. A special congratulations to Maisie who placed 1st.

Next club championships race is the Cliffe Woods 5 mile on 7th July.
