Marathon tips from Kevin McQuaid – Online coaching session

Trac are delighted to share a members online coaching presentation –
at 5.00pm on Sunday 24th March.

One of our expert coaches, Kevin McQuaid (Level 3 coach), will lead a short talk with a Q&A session on preparing for a marathon.  This session will cover what to consider and do in the week before and on the day of the marathon, be it in the UK or abroad.

Kevin has been a member of TRAC since March 2023, when he moved to Thanet.  He  previously ran and coached at with Serpentine Running Club in London, probably the largest running club in the UK, with 1200 members.   He is widely respected at Serpentine Running Club and locally.

The idea of the talk is to give people help/advice/pointers in the week/days leading up to the marathon itself, be that in the UK or abroad.

If you are entered or plan to enter a marathon this year, or maybe have no plans right now but want to get more insights into marathon running, please register by dropping an email to Julie.11.williams@gmail.com

She will then email you an invitation and link to connect on April 2nd.
If you are a marathon expert, and have topics to share, we would also be happy to hear from you and include you on our expert panel!

Kevin is a UK Athletics Level 3 Event group Endurance coach.  He has been working alongside Gary, getting the very best out of our junior athletes on a Thursday evening at track training.

Kevin specialises in coaching the marathon – over the last 3 years he has coached runners through over 20 marathons, including all the World majors. He has worked with a wide variety of runners, from sub-elite athletes (2h 29m in London) through Boston qualifiers to runners who finished in 5h 30m. He says each provides a unique challenge and reward when a runner meets their goal.

Kevin has run 7 marathons himself, the first being New York in 2004 in 3h 21m. He then drifted away from running, only coming back to run his 2nd marathon at Berlin in 2018. He ran this in 3h 24m, all self coached.  He focused on training & lifestyle to help himself improve. This saw him drop his time to 2h 56m in the London virtual marathon in 2020.

Most recently, he ran Boston Marathon last year (which didn’t go to plan) in 3h 14m and then more successfully Valencia 2h 58m as a 51 year old.
