Maryanne joins the 200 marathon club
For most people, one marathon would be enough, so to reach the dizzy heights of completing 200 of them takes a huge amount of hardwork, guts, determination and a little madness.
Here is what Maryanne had to say:
Marathon #200 finally completed one year and two weeks late. The weather was grey, the location was a long way from the planned Lanzarote and there was mud.
The lovely Pam Philpot kindly drove me to Gravesend, with Scotty due to follow at lunchtime to give me a lift home.
A last minute change meant a long walk to the start and the RD, Traviss, had really undersold the mud suggesting road shoes would be suitable. Oh no. Definitely not my road shoes which might as well have been ice skates. A quick call to Scotty ensued asking him to bring my ATRs (mixed terrains shoes). He turned up just as I reached half way. The change of shoes made a huge difference to the sliding around, but sadly didn’t do much for my snail’s pace.
I slogged it out and eventually finished, too slowly to see Simon Ballard receive his 100 Marathon Club shirt. Many congratulations Simon and welcome to the Club!
Thank you to Laurence Hylton and Andrew Harbrow for coming along and for the gift. And thank you to Jackie Hearn and Clive for the thoughtful card. I will await the jar of peanut butter pretzels with excitement!
And a massive thanks to Scotty for his support today
