Pilgrims Hospice – TRAC Charity of the Year 2024

Thanet Roadrunners AC have a proud tradition of supporting local charities.  This is mainly done through making donations from the profits of races that we put on during the year. In 2023, we supported the Air Ambulance and raised just under £2000.

For 2024, we have decided to support the Pilgrims Hospices and they will be our “charity of the year”.  Pilgrims Hospices are East Kent’s largest hospice charity and carry out incredible work in helping people facing incurable illnesses live well in every moment.

The vast majority of Pilgrims Hospices’ running costs come from voluntary donations and we are really pleased to be supporting this invaluable, local charity.

Thanet Roadrunners AC’s chairman, Peter Heath, said “Pilgrims Hospices do such a fantastic job locally.  Many of us know of family and friends who have benefited from their services and we wanted to help out with donations from the races we put on”

Karen Kenward, Community Fundraising Manager for Pilgrims Hospices, said; “We are thrilled that the Thanet Roadrunners AC have chosen us as their charity of the year for 2024. Since starting working for Pilgrims Hospices we have gained a wonderful relationship over 14 years with much support to our own events, to which we are most grateful.

We take great pride in the fact that all our services are provided completely free of charge. Approximately 80% of the funding comes from our local community and it is entirely due to the kindness of clubs like you that we are able to provide the care we do. Your support is ensuring people living with a terminal illness in east Kent can access the quality care and comfort they deserve. As always, we are only able to provide our services, free of charge, thanks to the generosity of our family of supporters, which the Thanet Roadrunners are an important part of. Together we can, and will, continue to make a difference, we thank you for your ongoing support.”

Our first fundraising event is Quiz Night at the Bradstow Inn, Broadstairs on Tuesday 23rd April.  Our quiz nights are always popular and with Kev Bullions (TV quizzer) as our quizmaster you know it will be good!  Teams of up to 8 people are welcome.  A suggested donation of £5 towards Pilgrims Hospices is encouraged.  There will also be a ‘heads and tails’ game, so please bring a £1 coin.  Email Janice Lee Miller social@thanetroadrunnersac.com to book your place.

Our next race is The Harbour Wallbanger, in partnership with Sporting Events UK who also work closely with Pilgrims Hospices on other events during the year.

You can enter the popular Harbour Wallbanger beach race on Sunday 14th July.
