Sandwich 10k – Race Report –

Race report by Alex Dugard –

After an underwhelming summer, it decided to finally arrive on the morning of the Sandwich 10K.

A beautiful but hot summers morning saw us arrive in Sandwich around 8:30am, free parking was much appreciated, numbers collected, race shoes on and a short warm up followed, we were ready for the off.

We had just enough time for a TRAC photo and we were very well represented.

We set off just after 9:30am. Myself, Lee Hardie and Olly Regan found ourselves at the front of the race in the opening miles.

First place went away from the start and was quickly out of sight amongst the twists and turns of Sandwich town.

The race is a two lap course and as flat as a pancake.

Completing the first lap I found myself alone in no mans land with Lee not far behind me.

The heat was a major factor, sapping any energy we had left during the last lap.

At the last turn around point at Sandwich Bay I noticed the runner behind me was not Lee and he wasn’t far behind me. This gave me the motivation I needed to dig deep and run strong.

Coming across the line I was happy to secure 2nd place.

Despite the heat there were some great performances from TRAC runners today.

As always it’s a pleasure to run for this club and it was certainly another strong showing for the club.

Well done to everyone that ran today!

I just went to spectate today with my dog and was amazed at how many TRACCIES turned up to race in very hot conditions. What a fantastic team effort today. There were PBs galore for Olly Regan, Jamie Jordan (1st time sub 40), Mark Croucher, Chris Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Robbie Weatherley-Day, Emma Dugard and Matt Stanley. Incredible in that heat! A special well done to Olly Regan for another outstanding performance for the juniors and Vic Croucher for some top photos (as always). Apologies if I missed anyone out. Well done to one and all!
