Summer Relays and AGM – important updates for all members
SUMMER RELAY SERIES
Hundreds of runners from clubs across East Kent took part in the immensely popular Summer Relays last year. However, there were also concerns over safety, toilets, parking and legal liability as they were completely ‘unofficial’.
For months, your Captains and Chairman have been working really hard with other clubs and Nice Work to raise standards and deliver this years Summer Relays. Unfortunately, this coincided with some locations requesting evidence of public liability insurance (which doesn’t exist), others imposing charges and one route being considered unsuitable.
In light of these difficulties, it has been reluctantly concluded that the Inter-club Relays must be cancelled for 2023, and will return in 2024 in a form that meets the rigorous requirements for runner welfare and safety that you all deserve.
All clubs have agreed that runner safety MUST be every club’s overarching priority and this year it has simply been impossible to implement changes which satisfied organisers legal liability and to manage costs. Dover Roadrunners in particular have spent hours and hours trying to ‘fix’ this.
Inter-club Relays WILL return in 2024 in a form that meets the requirements for runner welfare and safety that our members deserve. A working group commences planning for the 2024 relays in July this year.
We are all GUTTED at this decision, but after so many hours and hours work behind the scenes, I can assure you there are others who are much more disappointed than you! In particular Dover Roadrunners and Graeme from Deal-Tri deserve recognition.
