Dover East Kent Road Relay Report and Results

Ladies East Kent relays Dover round 4

A last minute panic involving a broken down car sadly reduced our 5 teams to 4 on the night and meant newbie Sarah Bailey had to step straight into the v45a team. Many thanks to her for taking it all so calmly in her stride!

Seniors – A strong performance from Gen, Claire and Abi led to a third place this week and gives them a chance of a podium position in the final round. Currently in 4th place only 4 points separates the top 4 teams.

V35 – Our newest runners Aileen, Jacquie and Nicky always run with a big smile and are still loving the relays, enjoying the camaraderie and team spirit. 6th place this week and 5th overall.

V45a – A last minute car break down drama meant our super speedy Maria couldn’t make it this week and new runner Sarah had to step in for last leg. Jo Holl ran a fantastic first leg and Sarah didn’t let us down, leaving us 4th on the night and still holding on to 2nd place overall. 3 points clear of joint 3rd placed Folkestone and Ashford means its all to play for next time.

V45b – only two runners tonight but Janice and Karen M have been stalwarts of the ladies team and continue to run strongly with a big smile all the way. The team are still 3rd overall.

V55 – Another great run from this team of Pauline, Elizabeth and Karen D. 3rdon the night and maintaining second place overall. This team should be safe in their position for the final round in Canterbury on the 9th.

Well done to all the ladies who ran tonight. It truly is a team effort and everybody’s run counts. Let’s hope for a great turn out for the fifth and final round in Canterbury and some great team positions all round. It’s party time next time ladies. There will be cake! 🍰

Men’s East Kent relays Dover round 4

Another fantastic display of Thanet Roadrunners men filled all our allocation, with three senior teams and two teams in all three age groups totalling 32 runners. Thanks to Roger and Jon for a late call off the bench allowing for new runners to set a benchmark time.

Seniors A team 7th place out of 10 – collecting 4 points. This highly competitive league in which we are 7th ahead of Canterbury gives us a good position in the league in amongst some of the best runners in Kent. Two new athletes to the 2019 relays included Matthew Collyer and Jack Bradley. Thanks again for your efforts Team A.

Seniors – B team   2nd on the night and joint 3rd in the league overall.  The Local Dover team seem to step it up in the last few races, this time only 25secsseparated them from us though. A good run at Canterbury could get us cemented into 3rd on our own. Alfie Grafton with a 13:46 was a notable time with all the team within a minute of this. Well done all.

Senior – C team 9th in the race tonight in the B league beating two scoring teams. This team has shown Max and I the pace of some of our new runners and some of our stalwarts the true spirit of our club. Times have been noted and gives us some options in the B league at Canterbury. Well done Jordan James with a 14:13! Thanks again Jon for the late call up.

V40 – A team. 2nd on the night 3rd in the league with 21 points, this league is only separated by 2 points to 1st. Its all down to the last race, either way we are on the podium. Ashford this time finding a fast veteran to beat us by 13 seconds. Thanks Team We Can Do This.

V40 – B team. One of only 2 clubs making a B teams in the V40’s shows the commitment of our club currently. Thanks Roger, for the late call up getting our team an overall time result faster than Deal Tri and Ashford Tri clubs A league efforts. It leaves the team in joint 2nd in the V40 B league following a Folkestone no show.

V50 – A team. 4th on the night, 3 points and hanging on to Joint third in the league. 3 seconds was the gap to third and this makes this a very tight league and will go to the wire at Canterbury. Great effort you three in this fully self-managed team, Sprint! Ha ha.

V50 – B team. 2nd place in the race was a fantastic result collecting 3 points giving a possible chance of a 3rd place in a league where we currently sit in 5th. Royston Robertson leading out with a 16:51.

V60 – A team. 2nd place collecting 3 points. South Kent lead the league now by one point with our team in second. its going to be a podium finish but South Kent seem to have more than one David Winch! 16:00.

V60 – B team. Another great effort showing the other clubs the scope of our club putting out 2 teams where most have nil. A familiar place in this league 2ndoverall though. Thanks all and the any team if you need me shouts from you all.

For me my runner of the night was our new first race as a traccie Jordan James in amongst mostly strangers, first time with a baton, borrowing vests and smashing out a great time.

I was overwhelmed by our attendance and support for all our runners, Thank you.

Next stop Canterbury 9th July.

Nicola Boyes, Ladies captain and Chris Brenchley, men’s captain. 💪
