COMPLETELY FREE Couch to 5k starts Monday 8th January

Our hugely popular Couch to 5k running programme returns on Monday 8th January 2024.

This year we will be based in Broadstairs.  Our NHS endorsed Couch to 5K starts on Monday 8th January outside The Charles Dickens Public House, Victoria Parade, Broadstairs CT10 1QS at 1830hrs.

We start in the first few weeks with a gentle warm-up, then several short but brisk walks and very steadily build over 9 weeks to a 5k jog/run.  You won’t finish as Olympians, but you will finish fitter, healthier, lighter and feeling amazing about yourself!

Our C25K group will run every Monday and Wednesday evening for 9 weeks, with a graduation run on Saturday 9th March, when we will all run Pegwell Bay Parkrun together.

Our female and male England Athletics qualified run leaders will support you every step of the way, encouraging and coaching.

Our number 1 objective is to get you to the end of the 9 weeks safely and without injury, so we deliberately start very slowly and steadily build over the 9 weeks.

C25k needs you to walk/jog/run 3 times a week.  We encourage you to arrange your third run with others of similar ability within the C25k group, often at the weekend.  It’s not just about getting fit, but also sharing your journey to fitness with others and making great friends with a shared motivation.  We know life is busy, but finding some time for YOU amongst your busy schedule is also a great example to young children and teenagers.  If you miss a session due to shift work or family demands, you can use the NHS app to catch up.

Why are we doing this?

Thanet Roadrunners are Thanet’s largest community running club.  We’re passionate about running, but also a great bunch of friends with a shared interest.  There is much more to life than running, but with such a beautiful coastline and fantastic trails and paths to run along we can’t thing of much!  We simply want to share our passion with others.

What do you need?

Self discipline, determination and a pair of running shoes are the only requirements.  Our C25K is COMPLETELY FREE.  Our run leaders will turn out in all weathers to support, encourage and guide you with your running.

We ask runners to use the free England Athletics App RunTogether.  You can register free here.

What’s the catch?

There is no catch what so ever.  However, about a third of our club members joined Thanet Roadrunners having completed C25K with us and we really hope you will catch the running bug and join the club after you achieve success in C25K.  Some choose not to, some even join other groups.  That is all fine by us.  We just want to share our love of running and give back to the community.

There will be several graduates from our 2023 C25K who will be supporting you on your journey, encouraging you, sharing their stories and we know their enthusiasm will be infectious!!!  It really helps to share your story and experience with others.

How do I register?

Drop us a line with your name and phone number and we will be in contact.

Our preferred method of contact is WhatsApp 07974355811

but you can also email us at

You can also chat to us on Facebook  or text on 07974355811.

We also suggest you go out for a few walks before you start, with two or three one minute ‘brisk walks’ to get your heart rate up roughly in the middle of the walk, or if you are already a jogger, do the same with two or three faster minutes.

There is no such thing as a ‘silly question’ so if you think this is for you, but you have a question PLEASE ask away.  We’re a friendly bunch!
