POSTPONED – The Margate Coastal Marathon and Half Marathon – 6th September 2020

It is with great disappointment that we have made the decision to postpone this year’s Marathon and Half Marathon.

Over the past couple of weeks as Spring races have been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of them have been rescheduled to take place in the autumn. As a result the race calendar for September and October 2020 has become extremely congested. This includes a number of events being scheduled for the same weekend as our marathon and half marathon.

We had to take into account the large costs associated with providing the appropriate level of medical cover to ensure all of the runners safety. With the uncertainty around putting on large events in the coming months, we also had concerns over the availability of the medical cover. At this time, this would be a huge financial risk for the club and we would be unable to provide assurances around the medical cover.

As plans for our event had not reached a critical stage, and as entries had not yet opened, it was decided that the best thing to do in the circumstances was cancel plans for this year’s race and put our energies into next year.

Therefore the running of the Margate Coastal Marathon and Half Marathon will be on Sunday 5th September 2021.
