Cross country report – Knole Park

An early start and the first frost of the season welcomed us to Knole Park for the third cross country race in this series. Thank you to our hosts Sevenoaks AC and our gratitude to all the supportive marshalls.

Luckily there was a 1 mile walk to the start line through the beautiful grounds for our first warm up of the morning.

The course is set in the grounds of a country house and winds down into a grassy valley, peppered with both gentle, steady inclines and shorter, steeper banks to climb. The paths were hardened due to the cold which made for a nice change to crossing the finish line caked with mud.

Whilst it’s certainly not an easy course, it’s one of the least technical. And it’s certainly one of the most scenic, though with lots of deer to be spotted in the trees. And a fantastically fast finish down hill!

Thanet had two complete teams today and great performances mean we’re surely in for some KFL points! Thank you to everyone who made the journey out into the cold and to all those who brought cake along – you wouldn’t want to spend a wintry Sunday morning any other way!

Another impressive turnout this week with 566 runners from 18 clubs across Kent. Looks like there was a photo finish moment between Chris Brenchley and Matt McCarthy! Well done to the Ladies team who secured a 5th place team position at this weeks run!

There were some interesting snowmen along the walk back, giving a lovely Christmassy feel to the day!

Thanks to Jo Kemp and Brittany Crombie for organising this weeks race report.

Hope to see lots of you next week Sunday 3rd December at the Alan Green 5 and 10 miler.
