England selection for Andy
Stop Press!
Andy Stevens is running for ENGLAND!!!!
Yes folks, you read that correctly!!! Thanet Roadrunners latest success story is the amazing news that Andy Stevens has qualified to run for England in the England Athletics Age Group Masters event, in the 45 -49 age category, running for England against a “Celtic” team competing for Scotland, Wales, NI etc!!
Andy chose to compete in the Half Marathon distance, and this campaign has been a year in the making. There were 4 qualifying events to choose from, and he competed in the Great Bentley Half on Feb 6th. Despite lousy weather (horizontal rain – you know the sort of stuff) Andy battled home in 1.19, finishing 38th overall (top 5 in age bracket) and qualified to run for England.
The representative race is the Chester Half Marathon, on 15th of May. So if anyone feels like ambling up the M6 and cheering him on, I’m sure you’d be greatly appreciated.
TRAC salutes Andy on this great achievement, and I’m sure everyone will join me in congratulating this modest valuable member of the club on such an auspicious occasion for the club.
