Les Golding 10k race report

On Sunday the 17th July, it was a rather hot day along the Hampton seafront as runners gathered for the Les Golding Herne Bay 10k directed by Invicta East Kent AC. It was a nice straight forward out-and-back course heading along the promenade to Whitstable, before looping up Tower Hill and joining back along the promenade toward the finish.

We had a small cohort of ‘Traccies’ turn up to represent, with most of the members saving themselves for the club champs in Gusbourne a week later.

Leading the club home was Abigail Cardwell in 40.47 minutes. She came home in an impressive, all female, sprint to the finish to take 2nd place, narrowly missing out on the win to South Kent Harriers‘ Amy Seager.

The next TRAC member home was Steve Morgan in a PB time of 44.26 minutes, accompanied by his coach Jacob Burton as they crossed the line together. Not long after was Mark Croucher in a respectable 46.13minutes, closely followed by Georgia Hughes in 46.14 minutes as she added a 10k PB to go along side her half marathon PB from the week before. Next across the line was Simon Burton in 47.16 minutes accompanied by former club member Nigel Cook. Completing the line up was Tim Kerr who pushed home in 65.00, over a minute quicker than his last runout at Sandwich.

Well done to all that took part on the day. It was far too hot for targeting PB times so well done to those who managed it!

Next up is The Gusbourne Run. Good luck those battling it out for the all important club champ points. Oh and don’t forget to enjoy the wine!

Editors note:  Thank you Jacob Burton for a cracking report.  We’d love to receive some more of these and share your success!
