Minnis Bay Relays – race report

Captain’s report from the Minnis Bay round 2 of the east Kent relays.

 

This round was our home event, meaning there was a high amount of planning for this both before and during the evening that included our fantastic marshals. Luckily a storm passed just in time to give us perfect racing conditions including a sunset over the horizon. Thank you on behalf of the club for all involved. 

 

  

52 Traccie’s with 9 teams of 27 men plus a younger team of senior Boys and 6 teams of 18 ladies plus a younger team of senior girls, took part in the second of the east Kent summer relays. This round was at Minnis Bay competing against clubs in the area over a short distance each of around 4km. 

 

Jack Bradley headed up our senior men’s A team or “J” Team in a fantastic time of 11:49 handing over the baton to Jude Wood, Jay Bailey, and Jordan Gilbert had the anchor leg this time to come 4th place out of 10 in this highly competitive league. Jacob Burton this time leading out our B team to a 4th in the B league. As a non-scoring team, our younger senior boys team also competed in this league storming in with the second fastest time in the B league.

 

 

Overall, in the league table, the A team is now in a strong 4th place and the B team joint 3rd.

 

Asmaa Hatim led our senior ladies’ debutants out supported by Eloise Kingett and Sorcha Page as a last-minute replacement giving the team valuable points in 8th place. Our younger senior girls team also competed in the B league storming in with the second fastest time and claiming the club some points.

 

Overall, in the league table, the A team is now in joint 4th place and the B team in 3rd.

 

Genevieve Case led out the Ladies V35 team in 15:06 the team included Claire Greenaway and Jo Kemp on the anchor leg taking them to a fantastic 1st place out of 6 teams. A B team of debutants Laura Obeng, Sam Knight and Vicky Birkett also claimed another fantastic 1st place on the night. 

 

Overall, in the league table, the V35A team is now in a clear 2nd place and the V35B team is also 2nd.

 

 

Dean Evans and Richard Allan in the V40 men’s team handed the baton to Matt Finch and James Figgins helping to complete a great 2nd place out of 6. Spencer Hoult, Paul Brackenborough and Kevin Bullions competed in the V40 B team league to 3rd place. Spencer ran the 4th leg at short notice so unfortunately will not score on the night.

 

Overall, in the league table, the V40A team is now in joint 3rd place and the V40B team will remain in 3rd.

 

Nicky Raeburn showed the way for her V45 team including Sarah Bailey and Janice Lee-Miller out to see the ladies to 5th place.

 

Overall, in the league table, the V45A team is now in 3rd place, however, 3 other teams are joint 2nd.

 

Our men’s V50 team scored 1st place out of 8 in the event with Andy Stevens on the outward leg with a 12:18 followed by Phil Stevens and Chris Brenchley this time 20 seconds ahead of our rivals. Simon Burton, Adrian Neaves and Jon Holl competed in the V50’s B team to 5th place on the night.

 

 

Overall, in the league table, the V50A team is now in a strong 1st place and the V50B team joint 3rd.

 

The Ladies V55 team continued a fantastic start to the relays with Jo Holl leading out with a 16:02 handing onto Nikki Boyes and Julie Williams to clinch 1st place by over 8 minutes. 

 

The Ladies V55B included Jacquie Brazil, Alison Smith and Jan Hayward and claimed 1st place on the night.

 

Overall, in the league table, the V55A team is now in a strong 1st place and the V55B team is also in 1st.

 

Our V60 A team came 5th on the night with Peter Heath, Steve Suttle and Debutant Craig Marsh.

 

A V60B team was 3rd with Michael Philpot, Steve Clarke, and Adrian Smith. 

 

Overall, in the league table, the points are very close. The V60A team is now in joint 3rd place and the V60B team 2nd.

 

My runner of the day goes to Adrian Neaves for giving it all for our club when he really shouldn’t have.

The next relay is on 14th June at Victoria Park in Ashford 7 for 7:30.
