East Kent Relays – Race #1 report
Captain’s report from the Folkestone round 1 of the east Kent relay.
40 Traccie’s with 7 teams of 25 men and 5 teams of 15 Ladies took part in the first of the east Kent summer relays. This round was at Folkestone competing against clubs in the area over a short distance each of around 4km including one hill we tackled twice on the course.
Jack Bradley headed up our senior men’s A team or “J” Team in a fantastic time of 12:50 handing over the baton to his team of debutants to the relays Jay Bailey and Jude Wood. Jacob Burton had the anchor leg position to 4th place out of 10 in this highly competitive league. Alfie Grafton leading out our B team to a 5th place out of 8 in the B league.
Asmaa Hatim led our senior ladies’ debutants out supported by Eloise Kingett and Brittany Crombie giving the team a 6th place result out of the 10 teams.
Genevieve Case led out the Ladies V35 team in 16:18 the team included Claire Greenaway and debutant Jo Kemp on the anchor leg taking them to 3rd place out of 7 teams.
Nicky Raeburn showed the way for her V45 team out to see the ladies on their way.
Debutant to the relays Dean Evans and Matt Finch in the V40 men’s team handed the baton to Richard Allan and Paul Brakenborough helping to complete a great 3rd place out of 7. Another new runner James Figgins competed in the V40 B team league to 3rd place.
The Ladies V55 team had a fantastic first start to the relays with new runner Julie Williams clocking a great time of 18:06 to team up with Jo Holl and Nikki Boyes to clinch 1st place by over 5 minutes.
The Ladies V55B teams had a great start to the season also leading by over 5 mins.
Our men’s V50 team scored 1st place out of 8 in the event with Andy Stevens on the outward leg with a 13:27 followed by Phil Stevens and Chris Brenchley 2 mins ahead of our rivals.
The 50’s B team took third place with consistent results 16:50-16:53-16:56.
Our V60 A team came 5th with debutant Lizo Ngqobongwana leading our team out on the night.
My runner of the day goes to Michael Philpott who volunteered to be on the bench in any category, however, he was unfortunate to not have a place in a team on the night.
