British Transplant Games: Amazing people and amazing achievements
On a freezing Monday evening in January, Fran Daly turned up with 90 other non-runners to Thanet Roadrunners first ‘Couch to 5k’. Like many other runners Fran had a story to tell and a target in mind. Fran’s target was more challenging than most. A year earlier the amazing team at Kings College Hospital and a donor who gave the greatest gift as they left this world in order to allow others to live had saved her life.
On Sunday Fran represented the Kings College Hospital Transplant Team at the British Transplant Games in Wales. Over a thousand people who have had organs donated to them and families of donors competed.
Fran said “It all hit home when you saw relatives and friends running in memory of loved ones who had gone on to donate organs to people like me”.
Despite repeated injuries Fran completed her race in a very respectable time. When a race report was suggested she said “It’s a bit like someone reporting on their game of crazy golf, to members of Royal St Georges Golf Club”.
We don’t agree Fran Daly. Congratulations on your achievement, which we are delighted to share in your success.
You can join the NHS organ donation register today. Thanet Roadrunners have 1750 followers on Facebook. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could add just 100 more names to the NHS organ donors list in recognition of Frans achievement?
