TRAC 5K Time Trial

Armed with his stopwatch, clipboard and starting gun, Terry Brightwell stood at the edge of the track at the Royal Harbour Academy on a cool autumn evening. He had put out a call requesting the attendance of Thanet Roadrunners of all abilities, age and gender to accept the challenge of pushing personal boundaries against the clock in the TRAC 2019 5K Time Trial.

 

There were 19 brave souls that answered the call and decided to take up the challenge. Upon arrival each runner collected there number, laced up those trainers and started to warm up.

 

Conditions were ideal for fast times with a flat, floodlit running track with just a light breeze in the air. Only 12.5 laps stood between our TRACies and external glory. Although PB’s were well and truly on the menu, these were not just going to be handed out. They would require grit, determination and a strong pair of legs.

 

The night was split into two groups based on anticipated completion time. The first group was for 25 minutes and over and the second group was for under 25 minutes. In the first group Steve Jones was the first to finish in 24.25 closely followed by Glyn Jenkins and Steve Clarke in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Susan Hayward was the first female to finish in 26.01 followed closely by Julia Hermitage in 26:22 and Janet Morgan in 26.32 (just 31 seconds separating all three ladies.

 

In the second group it was Jack Bradley that blazed his way around the track first in a blistering 17.23 followed by Chris Benchley 17:50 in second place and Jamie Collins in 18:39 in third. There was a close battle for 4th, 5th and 6th with just 5 seconds separating Tom Parkin, Max Hubbard and Ashley Day respectively.

 

The evening was a great success which featured some absolutely incredible and inspiring running. Everyone that took part gave it 100% all the way to the final bell and beyond.
