TRAC Tri 2021 – Oysterman 4th July 2021
Over the many years of Thanet Roadrunner AC, many of us runners have had a tri at some multisport events including our own duathlon (run, bike & run) some years ago. It has left a wealth of experience at the club, including a few ironmen/women triathletes.
A few years ago a few of us entered some sprint triathlons including a local event known as the oysterman (swim, bike & run). This event is great as a first sprint triathlon and it’s on our doorstep. I’m anticipating a few of us might take part this year and fly our running clubs’ running flags and vests.
Leading up to the event some of us will use the local Walpole bay for open water swim training. The event offers more formal training sessions as well as many local groups. The swim is a 500m sea swim, hopefully a warm sea by then!
Many of us Traccies are familiar with a cycle albeit mainly as a leisure ride, however this event suits all abilities and you will be surprised at the mixed level taking part. Some training rides can be arranged, possibly mixed with a swim and/or incorporating a run after known as a brick session. (Race cycle is 20k)
As for the run, we generally have some catching up to do and this bit is a breeze. (Race run is 5K)
A personal experience: For me taking part and having fun including some “in club rivalry” has helped me get around a big issue I’ve had with swimming and water. I’ll never be a fish to water, however, it’s fun running past many of the competitors on the 5k. And you’ll be a triathlete!
Triathlon is expensive and this one is currently £55 including day insurance.
Have a look and I’ll tri to answer any questions.
