Deal Dinosaur Race Report and Results
A number of TRAC runners of all ages took part in Sunday’s Deal “Dinosaur” 10k and junior 1500m race.
We were lucky to have warm (but not too hot) temperatures and a light breeze behind us on the way back. This is always a well organised, friendly summer 10k which is ideal for both beginners and experienced runners. The summer relay races had put a lot of speed in people’s legs and this showed with some great times being achieved.
In the junior 1500m race we had three junior TRAC members representing the club. Jake Stevens came first with 4.43 and broke the course record which had stood since 2004 ! Riley Maisey ran a great race and finished 3rd and also won his age category and Ferne Peirce represented the girls and finished 7th. All the junior runners finished in under 6 minutes which bodes well for the future of the club !
In the senior race, we had 12 members taking part out of a total of 336 runners. The 10k course is familiar to a lot of TRAC members with a flat first 2k, an undulating next 2 or 3k with a steep downhill between 5-6k and a completely flat last 4k along the seafront to the finish. The race was won by Charlie Brisley from Invicta EK in a scorching time of 33:45. It is a course that needs careful pacing as many get carried away with the flat and fast start only to regret it when the hilly section starts !
Bradley Cameron was first TRAC back in 4th place with a 36:48 closely followed by Andy Stevens in 6th place with a 37:16 which was enough to win the MV40 age category prize. Dan Clark ran a fantastic PB of 38:43 to make it three TRAC runners in the top 15 and John Hunt followed up a 26 mile training run the day before with a 40 minute 10k to finish 22nd ! Phil Stevens ran his fastest 10k for some time to come in in 42:12.
